The Legend of the lost Tarot Trump
The origin of the 23rd Tarot trump comes from the legend that the Gypsy peoples were given the holy book of an ancient secret society at a time when it became obvious to them (the Hierophants) that social conditions meant the impending destruction of all that was precious. The holy of holies, the bible of bibles, the key to occult science was given to the people for safe keeping.
At this point a card was changed, this card was called 'The Elements' and denoted the four elements and how the action of the Tetragrammaton went about created them. By applying the law of the Tetragrammaton to the card itself, the action of the Tetragrammaton could be seen working in more detail. Once this extrapolation was applied, 56 distinct individual elements could be identified. And so the minor arcana was born. It shows a detailed working extrapolation of the action of the Tetragrammaton, or what is sometimes referred to as 'the word of God'.
For some reason, that is not quite clear, an additional card was added at some point, presumably when 'The Elements' was subdivided, this card was called 'The Fool'. The card is said to be the link between the minor arcana and the major arcana. It represents man, the uninitiated, and as such does not officially belong in the Major Trumps (or the minor arcana), this means in actual fact the original trumps consisted of 22 cards, no fool card but instead 'The Elements'.
Both books are correct and whole. The original had 22, while the 'extrapolated' version, being acted upon by 'The Word of God' or Tetragrammaton has 78. This sacred book is the Tarot cards we now have in our possession today.
